Nigeria is the 4th largest source of UK student visas globally — 36,839 granted in 2025, with a 93% success rate. The door is open. The question is whether your application is prepared well enough to walk through it.
The UK isn't the right destination for every student. But for nursing, business, law, and postgraduate research — it's hard to beat. Here's why.
The NHS is one of the world's largest employers of internationally trained nurses. Nigerian students who complete a BSc Nursing at a UK university — BPP, Canterbury Christ Church, Birmingham City — graduate into a labour market with active NHS recruitment. Eligible graduates can use the Graduate Route while completing professional registration and building UK work experience; the route lasts 2 years for applications made through 2026 and 18 months from January 1, 2027.
The UK's one-year Masters is a genuine financial advantage. A Masters at a UK university costs one year of tuition and living expenses — versus two years in Canada, the US, or Australia. For working professionals seeking a career upgrade, this is the most capital-efficient postgraduate route in the English-speaking world.
Russell Group and post-92 UK degrees are recognised by employers, professional bodies, and immigration authorities across Africa, North America, the GCC, and Asia-Pacific. A Lagos graduate with a UK university credential has more geographic flexibility than almost any other qualification.
These are not schools we read about in brochures. These are institutions with whom ZSR has direct relationships — meaning faster responses, clearer requirements, and in many cases, dedicated ZSR student support contacts.
The honest breakdown — including the costs other agencies don't mention until you've already paid a deposit.
You need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from a UK institution licensed by UKVI. The CAS number goes on your visa application. Without it, there is no application. ZSR helps you secure admission and CAS from our partner institutions before any other step is taken.
Show your unpaid first-year tuition fee as stated on the CAS plus living costs of £1,529 per month in London or £1,171 per month outside London, for up to 9 months. Funds must be in your account — or a parent's account with formal evidence of the relationship and support — for at least 28 consecutive days before you apply. Recent unexplained lump sums can trigger further scrutiny.
All Nigerian applicants must complete a tuberculosis (TB) test at an IOM-approved clinic. The test is done in Lagos or Abuja. Results take 3–5 working days. The certificate is valid for 6 months. Book this early — appointments fill up during peak intake seasons (September and January intakes).
Book a biometric appointment at the UKVI-approved VAC in Lagos (VFS Global, Victoria Island). Fingerprints and photograph. Passport submitted for visa stamping after approval. Biometric data is valid for 10 years, so students who have previously applied for a UK visa won't need to repeat this step.
The Student Route application is completed online via the UKVI portal. ZSR reviews every application before submission — checking the CAS reference, financial evidence, and the personal statement for consistency. A single factual error between the CAS and the application form is enough to trigger a refusal or a request for further information.
On approval, ZSR conducts a pre-departure briefing covering UK customs and immigration, what to carry in hand luggage, how to set up a UK bank account, NHS registration, and first-week orientation. You arrive prepared — not panicking at Heathrow.
Not a sales call. A structured 30 minutes where we review your academic background, your budget, and your target outcome — and tell you honestly whether the UK is the right path for you, and if so, which programmes and universities give you the strongest shot.
If Canada, Germany, or another destination is a better fit, we'll say so in the first 10 minutes.
If your question isn't here, it will be the first thing your ZSR counsellor answers on the call.
For a 3-year undergraduate programme outside London at a post-92 university, a realistic annual plan starts with tuition, the official maintenance requirement of £1,171 per month for up to 9 months (£10,539), the £524 visa fee, and the £776 annual student IHS rate. London students must show £1,529 per month for up to 9 months (£13,761), and actual rent can push the living budget higher.
For a one-year Master's, add the full tuition balance, maintenance funds, visa fee, IHS, TB testing, flights, and initial accommodation costs before committing to a deposit.
Most UK universities require IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall (with no band below 5.5) for undergraduate entry, and 6.5–7.0 for postgraduate. Some institutions accept TOEFL iBT or PTE Academic. Several of ZSR's UK partner universities offer in-house English assessments or pathway programmes for students who don't yet meet the English entry requirement.
Yes. UK Student Route visa holders can work up to 20 hours per week during term-time and full-time during official vacation periods. Students doing a placement or internship that's part of their course can work full-time on that placement. The right to work is printed on your BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) — check it carefully when you arrive.
The Graduate Route allows eligible international graduates to remain in the UK and work, or look for work, after completing an eligible course. Bachelor's and Master's graduates who apply on or before December 31, 2026 receive 2 years; applications made from January 1, 2027 receive 18 months. PhD and other doctoral graduates continue to receive 3 years. The route cannot be extended, but eligible graduates may switch to another route, such as Skilled Worker.
As of 2025, only PhD students and research-based postgraduate students can bring dependants (spouse and children) on the UK Student Route. Taught Masters students, foundation students, and undergraduate students can no longer bring dependants. This is one of the most significant recent changes to UK immigration policy and affects Nigerian families who planned to relocate together. If bringing family is a priority, Canada or Australia offer better-structured family provisions.
Standard processing is typically 3 weeks (15 working days) from biometrics submission. Priority processing (available for an additional fee) takes approximately 5 working days. Allow 6–8 weeks from initial application preparation to having a visa in hand — especially accounting for the TB test appointment wait and the 28-day funds requirement window.
You'll receive a refusal letter specifying the reasons. The most common are: insufficient funds evidence, funds not held for 28 days, missing TB certificate, and weak genuine student assessment. You can reapply immediately, but the second application must directly address each refusal reason with new documentation. ZSR has successfully supported students through reapplications after initial refusals — including from other agencies.
BPP is one of ZSR's direct partner institutions and has been a consistent option for Nigerian nursing applicants. Its nursing provision includes routes designed around professional standards, international-student support, and progression toward registration. ZSR has supported numerous nursing placements at BPP; programme approval and intake availability should always be confirmed for the specific course before applying.
The initial 30-minute consultation is completely free. Service fees are quoted transparently after the consultation, depending on scope. We don't collect "processing fees" without a written agreement, and we don't collect cash without a receipt. If you've been asked to pay ₦500,000 upfront by any study-abroad agent before seeing a written service agreement, that should raise a concern.
