The job-seeker visa gives graduates 18 months to find employment matching their qualification. Once employed, they apply for a work residence permit. ZSR does not recruit students into German public universities. Students who already hold a valid public-university offer may engage ZSR for visa-document preparation, blocked-account guidance, and pre-departure support.
Open a German blocked account with an approved provider (Expatrio, Fintiba, or Coracle). Transfer €11,904 — the confirmed 2026 minimum. Receive the Sperrbestätigung (account confirmation document). This document is required for the visa interview. Do not use a regular savings account — German embassies specifically require an approved Sperrkonto provider.
Student visa appointments at the German Embassy in Abuja are in high demand — especially for September intake. Book immediately after receiving your university admission. Appointment wait times in 2025–2026 have ranged from 6 to 14 weeks depending on season.
English-taught programmes require IELTS Academic or TOEFL iBT. German-taught programmes require TestDaF (minimum TDN 4) or DSH-2 certificate. Both must be official and recent. ZSR confirms language requirements per institution as part of the credentials assessment.
Attend the appointment in Abuja with: admission letter, APS certificate, Sperrbestätigung, language proof, travel insurance, biometrics, passport, and CV. Visa decisions typically arrive 4–8 weeks after the interview. Processing times vary — ZSR monitors the file and responds to any additional requests immediately.
On arrival in Germany, students must register at the local Ausländerbehörde (Foreigners' Office) within 90 days to receive a residence permit. ZSR briefs all departing students on this process — and on how to open a regular German current account to receive the monthly Sperrkonto releases.
